In response to the pandemic, I ran a Free Designer Talks and Workshops programme throughout 2020. I designed the programme to broaden attendees’ understanding of what design is and what design might be. Over 500 attendees joined us from all over the world.
The programme’s spirit echoed the design conference I ran in 2014, Break. Subtitled ‘Questioning the Edges of Design’, Break gathered a cross-section of designers from a variety of backgrounds, highlighting the benefits of multidisciplinary design.
With hindsight, I can now see that the Free Designer Talks programme was the genesis of our forthcoming ‘Seasons’ at The School of Design. I’ll be sharing details on the seasons shortly.
2021 Talks and Workshops
I’m currently organising the line up for our first season of talks at The School of Design.
As I work on the programme, I’m running a series of pre-talks. Our first is with Jordan Moore, the co-founder of Dawson Andrews. Moore will join us to explore the world of networked notes.
I've started to gather ideas for our 2021 Office Hours sessions…
- package development for selling various design services;
- accessibility (in web, in product, etc.);
- using writing as a "competitive advantage", e.g. writing a book +/ articles as a path to presentations and conference speaking; and
- how to create reusable artefacts while developing/creating/designing/etc. (e.g. managing that; tagging; monetizing; social media adaptations based on one content, etc.).
