If this is your first visit to The Library, welcome! The Library is the backbone of The School of Design and is the framework around which our community is organised. If you’d like to join the community, this page outlines the benefits of membership.
The School of Design is a community for design-focused entrepreneurs who are designing and building the businesses of tomorrow.
I started building The Library during my time on IGNITE’s Propel Pre-Accelerator (January–June, 2020). Thanks to the support of the team at Notion, access to The Library is free.
The Library is the material I refer our members to, when I’m teaching courses. It will give you a good idea of the kind of material we cover in the school.
Here’s everything I’ve taught, for free.
The Library holds three decades of learning materials. It’s everything I’ve taught, for free. I’m in the last decade of my career and my goal with The Library is to help as many people as possible, which is why it is open access.
Building a Culture
My mission is to create a lifelong learning culture that’s focused on design × business × life. This culture has three pillars:
- Community: Peer Support; Accountability (Slack)
- Content: The Library; The Journal (Notion, Web)
- Curriculum: Workshops: Myself, Guests; Designer Talks (Zoom)
The School of Design is an accelerator for your ideas.
As you'll see from the screenshot below. I'm taking 20+ years of slidedecks with detailed notes and breaking them down into learning objects.
These learning objects are essentially interoperable, reusable 'components' that can be mixed and matched to create content for The Curriculum, a series of weekly lectures and workshops that I deliver or invite guest lecturers to deliver. ¹
(1) We've had some incredible guest lecturers, you can see them listed on our Free Designer Talks page.
(2) The categorisations are a work in progress. In fact, I'm not even sure if categorising the content is a good idea, it might impede serendipitous collisions between nodes in the network.
There is also the possibility that Notion might be the wrong tool for this endeavour (in fact, the more I'm working with it, the more I think it is the wrong tool). I'm building this content live so I can learn about the limitations of Notion as soon as humanly possible.
Current Build: v0.5.314
Design × Business × Life
I’m currently re-organsing the content in The Library and will be publish everything under the following categories in 2021.
These are all the pillars of knowledge you need to understand to thrive in the coming era of massive technological change and I'm looking forward to sharing this knowledge with our community.
